Letting Go

Letting kids grow up is so hard! My oldest is only four and this is something I already struggle with. This week was her first camp experience, her first time being away from me on a regular basis, and for anything other than babysitting. She is having a blast and I am so happy I signed her up.

It is a small camp, only 140 kids, run by our church. It runs from 9 until 12:30 which is the perfect amount of time, and is only four days. I love the director of religious education at our church and she loves my kids. Madeline is having a great time meeting new kids her age, doing projects and learning games and singing songs.

I signed Madeline up to give her a chance to get used to being away from her brothers and I on a regular basis. I also did it to give myself a chance to get used to it as well. I homeschooled Madeline last year and we are sending her to Pre K this fall. I know it will be great for her and I am excited for her but I will miss her while she is at school. This will be harder on me than it is on her! I am happy that we chose not to send her this past year. She didn't need it, and I am not sure she was ready for it. I was able to teach her the things she would have learned at school and she had plenty of opportunity to meet kids her age as well.

Each time she goes to camp and does fun activities a part of me wishes I was the one doing these things with her. I am glad that I sent her to camp though, it has helped both of us get an idea of what the school year will be like.

This growing up thing is harder than I thought!
